The Western Lake Michigan Star Fleet (WLM) fleet is one of the longest active fleets in North America. Stars have been sailed at the Racine Yacht Club since 1938 and the fleet was chartered with the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association in 1948 when Kenosha and Racine Star sailors combined fleets. Star boats have been present at the Racine Yacht Club for eighty-three of the Class’ 105-year history, and a historic mainstay of RYC. The fleet presently counts eleven boats competing weekly on Wednesday nights, and participating in three RYC-organized regattas, Star Class’ Fourth District regattas, and international winter regattas in Florida. The Star Class is considered the sport’s most competitive and strongly governed one-design sailing class and its sailors include numerous class world champions, Americas Cup winners, and dedicated local sportsman racers. The WLM Fleet offers friendly, corinthian competition.
