Opening Day 2007
What a beautiful May day for the Blessing of the Fleet. Racers,
cruisers, water police, sea scouts, bag pipers, and more were present during the
festivities. The commodore, Mark Rode, led the celebration of the
beginning of the boating season with recognition of the board, members that have
passed away this year, and a remembrance of our troops. The pastor blessed
our fleet, followed by a salute by our men at arms and the closing by a bag piper.
As the group broke up, the cruising fleet left for their shake down cruise to
South Shore Yacht Club. A quick skipper's meeting was held followed by an
opening day race. Dangerous Liason, T Time, Penny Express, and Goombay
Smash took to the water to brave the 3 to 5 knot winds. With some shifts
here and there with mixed pressure, Dangerous Liason finished first, followed by
Goombay, T Time and Penny Express. All boats arrived back at the harbor,
just as the rain started to fall.
